Google Analyst Tag Testing

Postby geeky-analyst » Sun Nov 06, 2016 10:31 am

Hi,

How do I audit and confirm that my Google Analytics code is capturing data and its capturing it correctly? Is there a test tool that can be used to confirm the quality of data captured?

Hi,
The following steps are good to start with:

- Use Google Analytics diagnostics. When you login to Google analytics, there is a bell icon in the upper right corner of the screen that serves for notifications. Click on it and read as some of the notifications are regarding code implementation and setup issues and fixes.

- Use the "Real Time" reporting feature that can be found in the left side bar of the report view. You can navigate your website and look at the real time report to see if your data is being captured and reported in Google Analytics.

- Google Analytics debugger is a Chrome extension that shows data being sent from your page tag to Google Analytics.

- "Tag Assistant" Chrome extension that can be downloaded from the Chrome store. This tool will let you know whether or not your Google Analytics tags are firing or not.

I hope this helps.
